Getting Started
What is Pool Predictor Pro? It forecasts when your pool or spa's water chemistry will next need attention, so you test and dose on a schedule instead of guessing. Enter your pool details and a water test, and it projects each chemical forward day by day using your pool's profile and your local weather.
Do I need a special test kit? No. Use any test kit or strips and enter the numbers you have. The app supports common kits, and its accuracy tightens with more precise ones (like drop-based FAS-DPD). You can even read a test strip with your phone's camera.
How do I set up my pool? A short setup wizard asks for your pool's size, surface, sanitizer, equipment, sun and environment, fill-water source, and test kit, then your first water test. That profile lets the app fill in anything you didn't measure and start predicting right away.
How many tests do I need before it can predict? Just one. It predicts from a single reading, filling in unmeasured values from your profile. Accuracy and confidence improve as you log more tests, because it learns how your pool actually behaves.
Predictions & Accuracy
How does it predict when my water will need attention? It runs a daily simulation of your whole water chemistry starting from your latest test, accounting for chlorine loss, pH and alkalinity drift, sun and UV, temperature, rain, and any products you've logged. It flags the first day a value is set to drift out of range — your "next check" date.
Does it really get smarter over time? Yes. It measures your pool's real chlorine-loss rate from your test history and uses that instead of a generic assumption, so forecasts get more tailored the more you test.
What does the confidence indicator mean? It reflects how much the app trusts a forecast, based on how complete your data is and how consistent your pool has been. Logging more tests and entering measured (rather than estimated) values raises it.
Why did a prediction change? New weather, a new test, or a logged treatment all update the simulation. A hot, sunny stretch shortens the timeline; rain or a fresh dose shifts it.
How does weather factor in, and what if I'm offline? With your ZIP or location, the app pulls your local forecast — UV, temperature, rain, humidity, and wind. Offline or without a location, it falls back to a seasonal estimate for your area, so predictions still run.
Water Chemistry & Dosing
Which parameters does it track? Free, combined, and total chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid (CYA/stabilizer), salt, water temperature, TDS, and phosphates — plus overall water balance (LSI).
How does it decide how much of a chemical to add? When a value is off, it reverse-calculates the exact amount of your preferred product to reach target, for example, "add ~1.2 qt of muriatic acid to lower pH to 7.5" — sized to your pool's volume.
Why does my ideal chlorine level change with CYA and pool type? CYA (stabilizer) shields chlorine from the sun but also weakens it, so higher CYA needs more free chlorine to stay effective. Saltwater pools hold chlorine at a lower ratio than manually chlorinated ones. The app applies these pool-industry ratios automatically.
Can I log the specific product or brand I use? Yes. A tiered picker goes Category → Type → strength or a specific branded product, and dosing uses that product's real concentration.
Why doesn't a treatment's full effect show on the chart right away? Some additions dissolve slowly — stabilizer, chlorine tabs, and salt take days to fully mix in — so the chart ramps them up gradually and won't suggest re-dosing what's still working in.
Water Issue Diagnostics
What kinds of problems can the app detect? Common ones: high chlorine demand, chloramines (high combined chlorine), a CYA crash (a sign of possible ammonia or bacteria), green/yellow/black algae, cloudy water, scaling or corrosive water, over-stabilization, foaming, and staining.
My chlorine went down after I added some — what does that mean? If chlorine falls when it should have risen, that usually signals unusually high demand — an organic load or chloramines burning through it. The app flags this and suggests testing combined chlorine and shocking to satisfy the demand.
What is combined chlorine / breakpoint chlorination? Combined chlorine (chloramines) is "used-up" chlorine that still shows on a total-chlorine test; above about 0.5 ppm it causes the strong chlorine smell and eye/skin irritation. Breakpoint chlorination means shocking high enough to burn it off — the app calculates the dose.
How do I record cloudy or green water and manage an issue? When logging a test, you can flag what the water looks like — cloudy, green, foaming, and more. Detected issues appear as a dismissible card and in an Issues Log, where you can add your own notes, log the suggested fix, or mark it resolved.
Reminders & notifications
How do reminders work? The app can send an on-device reminder on your next-check date, so you test right when it matters.
Can I get email or text alerts? Not yet — reminders are on-device notifications today. Email and SMS alerts are planned.
Accounts, Sync & Privacy
Do I need an account? No. The app is fully usable offline with no sign-in, and your data stays on your device.
Where is my data stored, and does it work offline? Your device is the source of truth, so everything works offline. Nothing requires a connection.
How does syncing across devices work? Create an optional email/password account, and your pools, tests, treatments, and issues sync privately to the cloud and across your devices, keeping the most recent changes.
Plans & Billing
What's included in the free version versus paid plans? The free tier lets you set up one pool and log a limited number of tests and treatments, with full predictions and charts. Paid tiers unlock unlimited logging and more. [See in-app pricing.]
How many pools or spas can I manage? The free tier covers a single pool or spa; a higher tier supports multiple pools and household sharing.
Troubleshooting & Support
The photo scanner isn't reading my strip correctly — what should I check? Make sure the guide matches your test kit, use even natural light, avoid shadows and glare, hold the camera steady, and fill the sample area. Re-scan if a color looks off — lighting is usually the culprit.
Is this a substitute for professional pool service or safety advice? No. It's a planning and guidance tool, not a replacement for professional service. Always handle and store pool chemicals according to their label instructions.
